Now Presenting..
Who is this person?
Welcome to my rambling blog, you can call me Tric. I'm 26 years old (soon to be 27) and I have a difficult time trying to summarize who I am. I was born in a tiny town in New York, USA, where I lived until I was 19. At the age of 19 I moved across the Atlantic ocean to the Netherlands to live with my boyfriend and continue my education. I have been continuing my education for awhile now and I'm hoping to try to get a little bit more than just school in my life.
What has been my education1? I did a year of Independent Studies in the US at SUNY Ulster, focusing mainly on history, music, and art. I did one year of history at University of Utrecht (Universiteit Utrecht) and am now finishing up my 5th2 year studying Celtic languages and culture, also at Utrecht.
Besides that, I'm a feminist, an atheist, a skeptic, and a fan of music, movies, history, languages, and whatever catches my fancy on a given day. I also am a musician, singing currently with my student-run women's choir, though I wouldn't mind increasing my involvement with music.
My plans for this blog:
I hope, with this blog, to explore further my love of languages3, history and everything else. I hope to educate some people, particularly where it comes to history and pop culture, and old languages. Otherwise, I'm just hoping to get my thoughts out there, and hope someone else finds them interesting. Considering how often I give my boyfriend lectures and rants, I certainly feel that I have things to say. Whether anyone wants to hear them is an entirely different matter.
I'm hoping to set up a schedule of related topics4, since what usually stops me is trying to come up with one topic. I do hope to post at least one post Monday through Friday, and whatever I feel up to posting about on the weekends. I am also open to suggestions and questions, as that will just make my life a little easier.
Commenting here
This seems a little useless at the moment, as I don't have any commenters, but better to have it laid out before hand. At the moment I'm allowing everyone to comment, and I hope that anyone who comments will do so with the thought in mind that behind every other comment there is a person. I don't want to be too strict, as I really like a very active comment thread, but I won't have anyone insulting others on the basis of race, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Ideas can be ripped to shreds and fallacies can be pointed out, but no just attacking someone. I have no problem with cursing5, so those who don't like it, be warned! Also disagreeing with me is not a banning offense, so long as it doesn't resort to fallacies, lies or any of the previously mentioned issues.
In the end, this is my blog. I reserve the right to withdraw commenting privileges according to my whim, but I´ll try not to do it without good reason.
1This is excluding the year of class I took for my immigration to the Netherlands, which were mainly Dutch language lessons.
2And hopefully last
3Languages that I will probably be covering, to some extent or another: Old Irish, Middle Welsh, Old Norse, Latin, Modern Dutch, Modern French, Modern Spanish, Modern Irish, Modern Welsh, and English. I hope to expand this list eventually to include Middle Dutch, for instance, or some of the older variants of French or Spanish, and possibly German, though that one seems less likely.
4I'm currently leaning towards such corny ideas as 'Movie Monday' where I pick a movie and either review it or discuss it. I could also, in this type of topic, critique 'historical' movies for accuracy.
5Sometimes you just have to curse. Sometimes the best response to something is just 'well, fuck'.
